charles-burgess.jpgCharles "Chuck" Burgess, a Northeastern University alumnus, was born in Newton, Massachusetts and has been a teacher and school administrator in the Boston Public Schools for 35 years.

A lifelong Red Sox fan, Burgess attended his first game at Fenway Park in 1953 at age seven. When he was ten, he bought his first rock-and-roll 45, “Tutti-Frutti” by Little Richard - the beginning of a collection of thousands of records from the 1950s and 1960s.

At one of his high school reunions during the early 1970s, a disc jockey provided the entertainment and inspired Burgess to think he could do the same. Burgess took his oldies collection and a couple of turntables to a friend’s bar in the Brighton section of Boston and hosted Oldies Night at Reilly’s Pub every Saturday night for the next year. Finding success in the venture, Burgess provided entertainment across New England for the next 20 years. He eventually landed a gig on a local radio station (WJCC-AM) where he produced and hosted Reflections, featuring in-depth personal interviews with such pop music stars as Bobby Vinton, Del Shannon, Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, and Fabian Forte. For nearly a decade Burgess served as the Master of Ceremonies on the nationally televised Jerry Lewis Telethon at Boston’s ABC affiliate WCVB-TV. He has also been the emcee for performances featuring artists such as The Skyliners, The Platters, Joey Dee and The Starlighters, Frankie Valli, and The Searchers.

Love That Dirty Water is his first co-authored project and is a natural extension of his love for sports, rock and roll, and writing. “I am honored and thrilled to have collaborated with Bill Nowlin. Bill’s credentials as a Red Sox historian, and his lifelong expertise in the music industry, made this effort a natural and most rewarding partnership.”

Burgess is a member of the Golf Writer’s Association of America and, in 2005, published Golf Links, his first release for Rounder Books. Burgess and his wife Catherine live near Boston and on Cape Cod.
